You will have them days when your mind feels like it’s traveling at 100mphs and you’re about to hit a brick wall, theres nothing worse when trying to think and make decisions. No matter how calm of a person you are, we all have them days. So take a moment and use some of these techniques I use to relax and help you start thinking clearly again.
Take a deep breath in counting to 3, hold for 3 seconds and then breath out counting to 3, repeat this for about 2 to 3 mins. If you feel like do this for longer then go for it. Concentrate on nothing but the peroces of breaghing in, holding and then breathing out. When doing this find a quite place to do so.
Music plays a big part for me, it’s one of the best ways to relax and destress. Invest in some good headphones if possible, I have a pair of bose quite comfort noise cancelling headphones. They are one of the best investments I have made and I don’t leave anywhere without them. If not any headphones will do. Try listening to some relaxing chillout music, Spotify has a vast array of playlist. When listening to the music concentrate on the music and nothing else, focus on the lyrics and instruments etc.
Put your thoughts on paper. You’ll be suprised how much of a good effect this can have on releasing tension. When writing try writing reflective pieces, for example what you have learnt from a situation or what you are grateful for, what makes you happy.
Stop over thinking everything, a lot of the things you think about won’t actually happen. You mind tends to just make situations up that will never happen. Stop trying to control everything, let things go. You can’t control everything and that’s okay.
Join the gym, go for a run or a swim. Do something that keeps you active it can be anything from a long walk to playing a sport. It will help relive stress.
Draw something, you don’t have to be the next Picasso, it can be random doodles etc.
Laugh loudly and wildly and do it often, even if it means laughing at yourself. Stop taking everything so seriously.
